Carnegie Fall to Brixton Topcats

Carnegie fell to their University rivals, Brixton Topcats 66-60 in a close fought game on Saturday.

Carnegie opened up the game on a 7-2 run, with some consistent scoring from the whole team. However Brixton’s Noha and Pekiis would start to heat up, both hitting a three a piece and Brixton would finish the quarter up 15-11. Carnegie would open up the second quarter on a 13-5 run to regain the lead. However Brixton would again find their shooting form taking a 37-31 lead into the 2nd half.

The third quarter would see Carnegie make yet another run at Brixton, behind Anebo’s 6 points in the quarter. Carnegie would take the quarter 19-11, with only Brixton’s 3 three pointers in the quarter keeping them in the game.

At the start of the fourth quarter Leeds would struggle to score, managing just 2 points in the first five minutes. Brixton would hold an eight point lead going into the last five minutes of play. Carnegie would fight hard to take the game at Brixton, with Stannard’s and Ajomibi’s free throws bringing the game to within 2 points with under a minute to play. Carnegie got a stop and had a chance to tie, unfortunately they turned the ball over forcing them to foul to stop the clock. Noha would make one of two from the line, making it a three point game. Leeds would then miss a three pointer to tie and never got a look in from there. They game would end 66-60 in favour of Brixton.
